Summer is in full force here. That means temperatures in the hundreds. Really, you can’t be expected to set foot outside in weather like this. Not when you have air conditioning and brownies indoors. The only thing a reasonable person can do is stay home and watch movies.
And, since I’d rather not trek to the theater to see a new one (at least until the temperatures drop below 95), I might as well watch a few old favorites.
Sometimes, what makes me want to re-watch a movie is not so much the whole movie but a single spectacular scene. Here are a few of my favorites:
It’s next to impossible to pick just one favorite scene from the Kill Bill series. But, if you held a katana to my neck, I’d have to pick the one where O-ren Ishii (Lucy Liu) collects Boss Tanaka’s (Jun Kunimura) head for bringing up a taboo subject. The only taboo subject, in O-ren’s opinion.
*Note: You may already know this, but this scene might not be safe for work. But only for a little violence and language.
Lucy Liu is absolutely perfect in this scene.
Sadly, I wasn’t able to find clips for the following scenes. Youtube let me down on this one. But, if you haven’t seen the films, I highly recomend them.
This is one of my all-time favorite movies. It’s surprisingly well written and has a few truly touching moments (something I love in a horror film).
My favorite scene takes place just after Diane (JoBeth Williams), the mom, has rescued her little girl Carol Anne from the Beast on the other side. Continue reading “What a Scene: Favorite Movie Scenes”
Recently, I read an article by Cindy Zablockis asking “what ever happened to horror movies that actually scared [us]?”
I recently watched the latest version of Final Destination, not sure what number, I lost count. Within fifteen minutes I was bored. Nothing in the movie actually scared me or even had me on the edge of my seat. I haven’t felt that heart racing, eyes open wide as I wonder what will happen next for a long time while watching a movie.
Read the rest here.
An excellent question, really.
I can’t recall the last, recent horror movie that really scared me. Grossed me out, sure. Made me uncomfortable for all the wrong reasons, yep. But scared me? Left me having to sleep with the lights on? Nightmares?
Well maybe…no. Or…nope. Not that one either. Hmmm…. Continue reading “Has Horror Lost its Mojo?”
Check out this list of the 20 most rewatchable movies by Pace J. Miller. Find movies you might not have seen in awhile but are definitely worth rewatching ( Die Hard, The Shawshank Redemption or any of the Indiana Jones movies perhaps) and maybe some you haven’t seen before but want to put on your to-watch list (Armour of God for me)… Continue reading “Play it Again – Top 20 Rewatchable Movies”
The gnarled tree outside the window.
The clown doll.
The huge, terrible face bursting out of the closet.
The skeletal creature guarding the door to the children’s room.
The steak crawling across the kitchen counter.
The bodies in the swimming pool.
The little girl in front of the snowy tv. A thin, smokey hand reaches out.
And that famous line: “They’re heeeere.” Continue reading “They’re HEEEeere”
