Show Me How You Feel

It’s that time of the week again. Time for a little laugh and (maybe) a little nostalgia.

Anybody remember awkwardly slow dancing to this at a school dance?

Wow.

That thought maybe brings back some memories better left forgotten. Anyway…

You know, this song is excellent advice for writers. We’re always being counseled to show more and tell less. Now, when you’re tempted to tell too much, just picture Jimmy and Jack telling you to show them how you feel.

You’re welcome.

The Cure for All the World’s Ills

…baby goats in pajamas.

Seriously, how can you not smile when you watch tiny goats in tiny pajamas hopping around and headbutting each other?

You’re welcome. Happy Friday.

This post was inspired by Sara Foster’s post on The Faux Fountain Pen, Miles of Smiles Challenge. Her list of things that make her smile (you really must go check out the math pants) made me smile and reminded me of one my favorite smile inducing things, baby goats in pajamas (or sweaters, or coats or whatever).

Actually, I want to see baby goats in tuxedos.

And top hats.

Maybe with little canes.

And monocles.

That would truly impress me.

Somebody do that right away.

If You Could Live in Any Cartoon Universe….

Which One Would You Pick?

FridgeImagine for a moment you’re standing in front of your fridge. It’s late at night. Your eyes are bleary. Your stomach’s rumbling. Last night’s taco is in there. Somewhere. So is that slice of cake from a week-or-so ago.

Cake sounds pretty good right now. Can you put the taco on the cake and call it a meal?

You open the door and, instead of leftover tacos, week old cake, some mostly unidentifiable vegetable matter in the crisper drawer and an entire tribe of salad dressings, you find a portal to another universe Continue reading “If You Could Live in Any Cartoon Universe….”

Legible Feasts

Delicious food and good books. My two favorite recreational drugs (Oh, and Netflix. That too). Sometimes those things come together to make for a delicious reading experience or a novel meal.

Now, while I may have run to the pantry and frantically rooted around for something – anything – after drooling on pages describing a feast at Hogwarts or King’s Landing or an impromptu meal at Kay Scarpetta’s, I’ve never actually tried to cook anything from a novel. Is Your Brain Haunted?

Do spectres haunt the halls of your mind? Rattling their ghostly chains. Footsteps echoing. The doors of your memory creaking. Moaning, wailing and generally being a pain in the posterior lobe?

Baby Bird
Lovin’ you is easy ’cause you’re beautiful. Dootin dootin doo doo…

I’m haunted by movie lines, commercials and sometimes even words (like “anesthesia”…isn’t that a weird word? Just say it a couple of times. Really draw it out. There you go. Now you know what I mean.) but mostly songs. Mostly old songs but some new. They rise, unbidden, from their graves to pester me at random moments. And believe me when I tell you that many of these spirits are malevolent, hounding me until I slip up and say whatever it is they’ve been wailing about out loud.

That’s when the real horror begins. Continue reading “Is Your Brain Haunted?”

Are You the Cat or the Dog?

Short weeks always make me feel a little off-balance, like I’m coming in at the middle of a season of some tv show with a complex plot line and lots of back story and everybody else gets it while I’m just floundering and I need another coffee and I think I left the light on upstairs and…

Anyway, that’s my excuse for pulling this post together at the last-minute. So, here’s a little something to (hopefully) make you smile.

And to inspire you to ask that incredibly deep, probing question, the answer to which will surely change your life and rock the world… Continue reading “Are You the Cat or the Dog?”

Old Favorites: Best Classic Movies

Growing up, my family instilled in me a love of old movies, especially the black and white classics. They may not have had the tech and special effects we have now but the stories stuck with you, even the silly ones. Some of them are among my favorite movies ever.

I tried to pick a single favorite and failed miserably. Heck, I can’t pick a single favorite ice cream flavor. I tend to have a range of favorites. So, here are just a few of my all-time favorite old movies (for the purpose of this article, we’ll “old” or “classic” as pre-1975): Continue reading “Old Favorites: Best Classic Movies”

Are You Geek Enough For It?

For YouTube’s Geek Week, that is.

Apparently, it’s Global Geek Week. At least, it is on YouTube. And you don’t have to be a super geek to enjoy the offerings this week.  You can enjoy an interactive adventure, go on a date with Freddie Wong, or learn how cosplay can enhance your resume .

Every day is a different geeky flavor. I’m especially looking forward to Gaming Thursday.

Whatever your inherent level of geekiness (that’s a lot of geeks in less than 100 words :)), you’re sure to find something fun. So geek it up already!
