You know how you’re cruising merrily along sometimes…then you plow into a wall you really should have seen coming?

Yep, that sums up the writing part of my week.

Fortunately, everything else is (mostly) going according to plan.

Here’s whats ROWing on:

Writing

Last Week

Three scenes and most of a fourth reworked.

The goal was eight. That probably would have been a big stretch even if I hadn’t hit that wall I mentioned earlier. A more reasonable goal would have been five.

And that wall? Yeah, about that…

I could’ve sworn I’d transcribed most of last half of my novel or had written it directly on my computer. However, when I went through my working Scrivener project to print out the next few scenes needing to be reworked, I found all I had was notes for most of those scenes. That means either I did transcribe and/or write them directly but currently have no idea where those files are, or (and this is the worst possibility) they weren’t yet transcribed and were lost when my notebook was stolen.

Yeah, that last possibility made me cry a little. But there’s no use in crying over spilt milk or stolen notebooks, is there?

This Week

I need to scour my computer for those scenes, then catalog which scenes I have written and which will need to be rewritten. I’m tempted to skip setting a scene reworking goal this week, but I’m going to go ahead and set it tentatively at four.

Cello

Last Week

I’m almost that tricky passage I needed to bring up an octave. I’m comfortable with the fingerings on most of it and (big bonus for me) I’m up to tempo on most of it as well. The remaining tricky bit is a shift waaaay up the fingerboard.

This Week

Smooth out the tricky shift and bring that bit up to tempo. Then, I can work on playing the first 2/3 of the song with the audio.

Health

Last Week

3/3 workouts.

The push-ups are still kicking my booty. I’m hovering around 15 modified. I didn’t work on the alternative exercises…which I really should’ve.

Sit-ups are at 30.

This Week

3 workouts.

Increase the difficulty of the modified push-ups and/or number. Use free weights to strengthen the same muscle groups.

Sticking to 30 sit-ups. I’ll increase next week.

Family

Last Week

Shared Spaceballs (1987) with the kiddos. It was a hit.

This Week

No clue what to do this week. It’s probably time for a game night.

  1. Shit, I’m so sorry to hear about your missing work. I hope it’s just a hidden file somewhere! If not, cry, eat your comfort food of choice and then make a plan to get back in the grind.

    1. Thanks!

      The worst case scenario would be having to complete rewrite. But the only real drawback of that would be the time. It would greatly delay finishing. Still, it might work out better.

      I’ve got my fingers crossed for finding the files though.

      1. Yeah, I need to backup my work more, because the very idea terrifies me. But, at least you still have the story inside your head, if the worst case scenario comes to pass. I’m rooting for you to find them, though!

        1. Yep. I’ve got automatic backup on the computer. Unfortunately, for awhile, I wasn’t labeling and organizing files for this WIP very effectively. I also write a lot by hand and drag my booty on the transcription. That’s the thing I really need to get better about.
