Is Minecraft Taking Over the World?

My kiddos have a secret language.

It bears a certain resemblance to our native English, involving words such as Creeper, Enderman, Ghast,  slime and Steve, yet remains exceedingly difficult to decipher. After exhaustive research (i.e. I asked my lovely children what the heck they were talking about), I have discovered what this language is…

Minecraftese:  (noun) a modern, rapidly evolving language spoken by cult members players of the video game Minecraft, sometimes referred to as Minecraftian or Mine Latin.

While I’ve yet to personally delve into the Minecraft world, I love that it’s a game my children can (safely) enjoy and share with each other and friends. Whenever they meet someone new, drop an obscure Minecraft reference and discover a fellow fan, I smile because it reminds me of the way my fellow nerds communicate in Montypythonian (how does a one-pound swallow carry a two-pound coconut after all?).

Here’s a funny vid they shared with me. Whether you’re a Minecraft enthusiast or still trying to figure out what an Enderman is, I think you’ll get a kick out of it too…

And here’s an interesting article on how Minecraft may actually help your brain.

What do you think? Are you a Miner? Is Minecraft taking over the world? If so, should we be afraid?

  1. Haha, yes, I play Minecraft! It’s been taking over the world for a couple of years now; in fact, I’m surprised it’s still as relevant as it is! 😛

I started playing the game with my best friend when it was still in beta, back in 2011. It’s been a great way for us to interact creatively online, especially since we live pretty far apart now and don’t get to see each other in person as often as we’d like. Over two years, we’ve created half a dozen worlds and have lived hundreds of adventures together! It’s been a lot of fun! 🙂

And I love those Minecraft parody songs! Wasn’t familiar with this Usher one, but I’ve seen some Maroon 5 and One Direction parodies that are hilarious!

    1. I can see how Minecraft inspires creativity. And I love how my kiddos can build worlds together online. They like to play a lot of pranks on each other in those worlds too. LOL

  2. We are a variety of volunteers as well as launching a brand new plan within our local community. Your blog presented all of us using information to help pictures on. You have done an amazing practice along with our complete area is going to be grateful back.
