Killer Thursdays

What’s in my Head (a 100-word story) and An Announcement

First, a little flash fiction inspired by Albert Berg’s Straight Jacket challenge:

what's in my head is out there now

What’s in my Head

“Shhh. Stop that,” they say. “You know what happens if you don’t.”

I can’t stop. The Old Ones are too close. I can feel them whispering in my bones.

They put me in the room. Soft, white walls. Strap me into the pretty jacket with all the shiny buckles.

“Behave.” They close the door.

It doesn’t matter. What’s in my head is out there now.

The world cracks like an egg. Darkness spills in.

I feel them reaching for me but they won’t find me.

I rest against the soft walls and listen to the screaming begin.

You can find more offerings for the challenge at Albert’s blog and well as his usual wit. Also, in addition to his marvelous A Prairie Home Apocalypse or: What the Dog Saw, he has two more stories out, Derelict and The Beach Scene. Check ’em out!

Now…for the announcement:

I’m launching a new Twitter hashtag #FearFridayFeature (a huge thank you to Jess Witkins for the idea) in honor of my upcoming Fear Friday Classic Horror series where we can hang out and talk about classic (both new and vintage) horror and related topics. Everyone is welcome. Please join in! I’d also love to have guest posts on the classic horror topic. Come on over and join in the fun!

  1. Hello, I am such a dud! I totally did not realize it was you that I was sending my guest post to for the life list club. Yeah! So glad you’re joining us 🙂

  2. Just stopped and found this short, but creep story. I love it. Excellent use of first person p.o.v. And the last line is packs a bunch. Are you a fan of Poe and/or Lovecraft? I’m always curious about the writers a writer likes.

What's on your mind?
