The Life List Club

How’s that old joke go?

How do you eat an elephant?

…drumroll please…

One bite at a time!

(cue laugh track)

Seriously though, folks, it’s important to dream big and have big goals. And it’s just as important to break those goals down into reasonable steps (you know, so we don’t freak out at how overwhelming it all is). The next step is to commit to those steps (maybe by announcing them publicly). Then, you gotta actually follow the steps and achieve those goals!

The Life List Club, brainchild of the lovely and talented writers, Jess Witkins and Marcia Richards, is a way to share our goals, encourage one another and cheer each other on as we achieve them. You can read more about it here at Jess’ blog and here at Marcia’s blog. And you can visit all your favorite Life List Club writers our new blog.

So, without further delay, here are some of my goals for the next 12 months (I will continue to add to the list as I learn more from this journey I’m on)…

  • Write (or rewrite) at least one scene per day, at least 3 days a week on my MIP and finish first draft of MIP by August 1, 2012 (hopefully sooner).
  • Continue to consistently post Tuesday, Thursday and Friday on my blog (plus ROW80 check ins).
  • Take Sundays entirely off from the web/blog/writing to be with my family
  • Check into Twitter 2-3 times daily (except for Sunday).
  • Read 2 fiction books per month.
  • Exercise at least 3 days/week (either formal workouts and heavy gardening/housework, etc).

*updated 3/28/12*

Attention: Writers! A writer who would like to become a contributor to The Life List Club, guest posting with us, please contact
Marcia Richards: marcia DOT a DOT richards AT gmail DOT com or Jess Witkins: jessi DOT witkins AT gmail DOT com. At this time, we are able to accept one new writer per month.

  2. I am yet to read the mechanics of the club, but it sounds very promising! Your goals can be a template for other writers… Good luck with them.

    • Thank you! The club is still in its infancy. Marcia Richards and Jess Witkins are the brains behind it. They would have the best information right now. The links to their blogs are in the post. :D

  3. I love Sunday’s goal, Sonia. You are the best person I’ve met yet who balances home and writing. I mean it! You are so genuine with your comments to everyone I know I have the greatest respect for you and your time! I hope you achieve all these great goals! I’ll keep giving you the thumb’s up and bring chocolate to the #LifeListClub whenever you need a boost!

    • Awww! Thank you. Balance is a huge challenge. It’s still kind of a work in progress for me. LOL. I love being able to be a part of all this though. It’s fantastic!

  5. Great idea, Sonia. I’ll be giving this some thought. :)

    • It’s so easy to slack off without strong goals…at least for me. And a big part of that is stating the goals publicly. If I don’t hit them, I know #thepantsofshame could come after me. The horror! :D

  10. SONIA, HOW DOES ONE JOIN THIS THING AND ALSO THE ROW80 THING? WHAT ARE THE GUIDELINES OR RULES? I WOULD LIKE TO TRY TO TAKE PART, ESPECIALLY GIVEN THAT I AM SO CLOSE TO COMPLETING “THE IHMAEERAN CHRONICLES” (WELL, FINISHING THE FIRST DRAFT ANYWAY, AND THEN COMES THE “SURGERY” WHEN I HAVE TO EDIT!).

PLEASE LEAVE A COMMENT IN RESPONSE ON ONE OF MY BLOG PAGES, IT DOESN’T MATTER WHICH ONE, I WILL GET IT.

WISHING YOU SUNSHINE SKIES AND RAINBOW DAYS AND AS ALWAYS, LOADS OF CYBER HUGS AND LOVE,

    MARANTHA

  11. BY THE WAY, HOW DOES ONE POST ON TWITTER? I HAVE BEEN ON THE BLOOMING SITE FOR AGES AND NEVER FIGURED THAT ONE OUT!

    • Glad you were able to work out the Linky Tools thing. I’ve only used it to post my ROW80 check ins. As for Twitter, do you use the regular version or do you have TweetDeck? With the regular, you just post your tweet in the box below “What’s happening?” On TweetDeck, there’s a button that looks like a little speech bubble. If you press that, a box for typing your tweet comes up. I think Kristen Lamb has more detailed info on how to use Twitter on her “Twitter Tuesday” posts. Hope that helps!
